Santa Palma — In an unexpected yet not entirely shocking turn of events, Mayor Whiskers, the three-year-old domestic shorthair cat, has been re-elected for a third consecutive term as the city’s mayor.
Despite not speaking at any of the city council meetings, Mayor Whiskers has been a beloved figure in the town, winning over voters with his soothing purrs and disregard for traditional politics. “He’s so calm and collected,” said voter Rachel Jackson. “He’s also the only candidate who hasn’t promised to increase taxes.”
While some city officials are questioning the legality of a feline holding office, no one has dared challenge the election results, especially after Mayor Whiskers’ victory speech (which consisted mostly of naps and the occasional paw shake).
“We’ll be addressing a few urgent issues this year, including the never-ending problem of yarn-related accidents and the increasing demand for premium catnip,” said Whiskers’ campaign manager, Mr. Fluffington, a poodle.
